Ok....so I didn't want to waste the opportunity while the bed was off to paint the rear frame section. After doing some reading and YouTubing I decided to hit it with heavy duty oven cleaner and let it sit for a day. Then you hit it with a degreaser on top of that. I used Simple Green. I let it sit on there for about an hour and then you power wash it all off. It works amazing well. It took it down to the bare metal in most places. Use a respirator though. That oven cleaner is very caustic. I repeated this process one more time for good measure. My next step was to wipe it all down with wax and grease remover to get it ready for paint. I used Eastwood Platinum Rust Encapsulator. Overkill probably, but that's par for the course. After 5 hours of dry time I put a coat of Eastwood Extreme Chassis Black. It is really thin stuff. A mini rolller can get about 90% of everything. I used a brush for the cracks and crannies. If I think it needs another coat tomorrow I'll do it again. Now on to sanding the cab! My least favorite part. The Encapsulator is silver. I added a couple more pics of the bed.
