'82 22R in '88 4Runner (EFI)
Will it work?
Basically this guy sold us a "'89 22R that had been rebuilt intake to pan"
NOPE
Opened it up. Double row timing chain. NOT an '89. Could be an '80 - '82
Not rebuilt either. Newish head. Thats IT. Everything else is factory.
However since I have it we want to get the most out of it, and whereas it hasnt been rebuilt, its not in bad shape. Will it fit in my 4runner?

If it is an 81-82 engine, I dont think your transmission will mate to it. I think they are different. At least from what ive been told. And Its not to unreasonable that he might have paid an extra 75 bucks from engnbldr to get the dual row timing kit.
