81 4x4 Yota with oil venting from the valve cover
Hello I recently purchased a 81 Toyota Pickup 4x4 with a 22r motor and 5 speed tranny. It had a rings, pistons, and all seals, bearings and gaskets replaced besides the valve cover gasket. It has a lot of air venting from the valve cover going into the air cleaner on the carb but i have noticed that there is oil coming from there also. I know a little bit about toyotas but cant understand what i need to do next and it drives but has little power in 3rd and 4th gear. I have to almost floor it to get it to make it up a slight incline. Also it seems to be going through gas really fast. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

what you describe is called blowby, some is normal, but with your powerloss I would look into getting that motor compression checked. Was the head redone? A bad pcv can cause excessive crank case pressure as well.
on a side note, Why would someone rebuild a motor and not change the valve cover gasket when the gasket comes with a rebuild kit and the valve cover had to come off? You sure that motor was rebuilt and the seller wasn't just telling you that to sell the truck?

I dont think the head was redone but i do know that it was rebuilt but probably not a kit more like peiced together. I am getting a new pcv and just relized that the valve cover was damaged and has a nice crack right next to the pcv valve and was fixed with rtb. I dont know and i was already looking at getting a new motor for it anyways have a shop here in colorado springs that will give me a 22r long block for 1400 or short for 750 but i am sure it needs a new head but i am going to start with a new valve cover, gasket, fuel filter, pcv valve, spark plugs, and spark plug wires. Let me know if there is anything else that I should check. Thanks for the fast reply and knowledge i need as much as i can get so I can get this fixed and running strong.
