3rd member questions
I have front axle from an 81 yota thats going in my 94 when i do my sas. I am getting ready to tear it apart and rebuild it and i am getting a 3rd member that is ready to drop in my question is they dont list different ones for the front and rear 8 inch are they interchangable? They also list one for a 4 cylinder and a 6 cylinder i dont know which motor the axle donor truck had in it as it was gone
i dont even know if the offered a 6 in 81. It might be stupid questions but i am not real familiar with yota axles.

All of the 8" Toyota third members are all interchangeable. I have a 1980 front axle with a V6 third member (bigger bearings and stronger 8 rib vs 6 rib case) to match the V6 third in the rear axle of my 94 Truck. By the way the 3.0 V6 was offered from 1988-1995.

Make sure u check gear ratio between v6 and 4cyl diffs. Some 4cyl were 3.9, 4.38 and most are 4.1. The auto v6 and some turbo 4cyls used 4.56's. CHECK YOUR RATIO!!!! divide ring gear tooth count by pinion count, or there should be a stamp on the ring gear itself. You mix ratios, next time in 4wd---Boooommmm! One set WILL explode.
