20r daily driver?
im about to be wrapping up my 1980 toyota rebuild and am stoked to finally get this thing on the road, only one problem tho i started to build this truck and only lived 15min away from work well the plant i worked at laid everyone off...no big deal but i got another job and its about an hr away, so realistically is this truck going to be able to drive over 2hrs a day and still be reliable.....ive gone through everything and it looks good all i rebuilt was the motor 20r and bored it out 50mm over with dome top pistons, 292 comp cam, all new vavle springs and seals, basically everything new except head, block, and crank (witch was turned) its got 4:56 gears and 35s...im extremely worried that this truck is going to be way to slow and rough for me to enjoy it driving that much every day....i was just wondering if any of you 1st gen guys have ne advice for me???? thanx

Ne? Isn't it really just as easy to write any? Anyways, I don't have a 20R, but I've heard they area very reliable, just not quite as much power as the 22R. I don't know how they run with those modifications. Bored to 50 is way over stock, so I'm not sure how that will effect things. I've got an '83 with no power steering and I'd dd it for an hour drive every day no problem. It just depends on how much comfort you want. My truck isn't the most comfortable vehicle I've ever driven but I took it to Salt Lake & back (about a 7 hour drive each way) and I didn't have any issues. At some point along the road, no seat is comfy to sit in. If you're on a decent road that isn't super bumpy, I'd think you'd be fine. Try it out for a couple weeks and see what you think.

If it was my only vehicle, I would obviously, but I have a car as well, and usually take that when the drive is that long. over twice the gas mileage and a smoother quieter ride.
But I love the bouncy loud ride of my truck around town.

I also have a 22r, but I think you will be fine driving your truck every day. I drive mine at least a hour every day and really I haven't had any major problems in quite a while. I love driving my truck, I wouldn't trade it for any other daily driver. I always just keep in mind that it is probably two decades older than the other cars on the road, so it is a little slower and rougher ride, but think of how much cooler it is than their new cars.

the motor is about 134 cubic inches to begin with and 50mm over is an additional 1.97 inches per cylinder so not geting ANY where close to 327 cubic inches (but if you wana give me a chevy 327 feel free)

Most motors are bored .030" or .060" over before a rebuild. That's thirty thousandths of an inch and sixty thousandths of an inch, respectively. You are claiming you bored your motor nearly 2" over. You wouldn't have any cylinders left; just one big channel where they used to be.

You can't bore a 20R 50mm over. I doubt there is any normal engine that you could bore 50mm over. That is almost two inches. Each cylinder bore is only about 3.5 inches in diameter in the first place. So if you add another ~2 inches, you have a bore diameter of ~5.5 inches. The stroke is 3.5 inches also. That would give a single cylinder volume of ~83 cubic inches. Multiply that by 4 cylinders and you have ~332 cubic inches. In reality it is closer to 327 cubic inches. I came up with 332 cubic inches here because I rounded a few values up along the way.

.020 of an inch = .5mm......probably 20 over
as for the question. if you have a general idea of how to fix things on the truck they are very reliable. if that motor was rebuilt good it will last you another 200000miles easy

Well the engine should be fine. Surprised you went with such a high Dur Cam... I run the 260 compcam and it pulls great from 2000-6000rpm. But you should be fine i run 35's on 4.37 and it aint no problem except on steep hills doin highway speeds.
Might want to look into a weber its makes a big difference on a modified engine, my truck was a real dog on 35's before a threw on a 38 outlaw

20R's are bulletproof, extremely reliable, not very powerful, but you get reliable power. And with a freshened up 20R you should be fine.
4.56s and 35s...its going to be gutless, step down to 33s.
Being an '80, I'm guessing 4spd? That's going to get old...REAL fast. 5spd swap in order.

I daily drive an 84 4wd which isnt much different than your 80. It is plenty reliable i drive 100 miles or so every monday and wednesday. If you did a good rebuild you should be good to go. I dont think it will be too rough to enjoy but that really just depends on your preference. I cant get enough time behind the wheel of mine and i've had her for a good while.
Only thing i'd encourage is the step to 5.29's
Edit: Ah yes i just remembered the 4 spd. 5 spd swap is quick and easy well worth it
