Question 20R 22R hybrid help

So I have a 20R head sitting around and thought of putting it on my 81 22r block rebuilt not too long ago. I was going to put a delta 260 rv cam the head will be stock other than cleaning up the ports and intake. I am not going to go bigger valves do to limited funds ect.

I want to know what kind of power I will be looking at with this and what rpm range my motor will have its power also if its worth doing?

I talked a little with Ted at engnbldr he said it will do better with bigger valves.

I normally run in the rpm range of 2000-4000 and rarely over 4300

I want to get some more opinions and information on this I know I have been posting a lot so please do not get mad at me for issues like this. I just don't want to waste time and money if this head won't make a difference.

There's a TON of threads about hybrids, here and on Pirate. You have to have a 20R intake manifold and I've heard that the stock 22R valve size is best.

What's wrong with your recent 22R rebuild? If you're running that mild cam and don't run over 4300rpm I'd say leave it alone if it runs good.

Question 20R 22R hybrid cam help

Okay so soon I will be taking the plunge and swapping on my 20r head on to my 22r block, I have a weber 3236 along with a tri-y header and 2 1/4" exhaust, The head will have stock size valves and some mild porting. I just have a few question.

What cam should I use with this set up?

My truck has 31's with 4:10's I do occasionally get on the freeway and highway going to a wheeling spot a few hours away this is a rare occasion though, most of my driving is city/ highway. I don't really rev past 5000 ever because I feel like the 22r will explode even though it is a newely rebuilt motor. and I normally cruise between 2000-3000 rpms. I am lost on what cam would be best for me, right now I am running a 260 stage 1 rv cam from delta and I am unsure how this cam will respond with the 20r head because if my best option is a cam style like that I will just reuse that one.

Call engbldr. Don't worry your 22r won't explode that easy. The factory rods are forged along with the crank.

The 20r head only benefits in the higher rpm range I believe. It also increases the compression a bit IIRC.

I've read on one of the forums here that it benifits my entire rpm range and really helps the torque curve espically with stage 1 rv cam

Does the swap seem worth it I already have the head it came with my truck I'm only paying to have it cleaned and new seals and set up for the cam because it is already rebuilt before. Maybe some port work. With everything this swap will cost about $100 seem worth it to you guys?

Make sure you don't deck the head or block too much.

I ended up going with the delta 260 cam 1000-4500 and should give me a broad power range due to the 20r helps top end.
And I told the head shop to take off the minimal amount

Check out the old Celia forums there a lot of good info there. I am in the process of doing a 20/22r. From what I understand is it dose bump the comp a bit. But from what i have read most people do the 20/22r is like stated above the high rpm range and the heads flow better. I would high recommend doing over sized valves. I am going to use the EB 270/430 High out cam.

Ok I have the stock 20r head with a 261 cam I even kept the 22r carb. I cant compare the 22r head to the 20r head because my 22r head was screwed when I bought the truck...I have it in a 2wd and it runs great and gets around 30mpg!!!!! I do not have a tach to tell you when the power drops off but I am guessing around 4ish maybe 4500. watch my video here
