20R/22R Distributor
#3
The distributors appear to be identical. The advance curves of the 22R might be different than the 20R, but it would probably work. I put a vacuum advance from a 22R on a 20R distributor before and it seemed to work fine. What is your distributor doing?

I have the wrong one.
The truck was given to me for nothing. I am in the process of get'n it going.
I will post a picture of what I got tomorrow. It only has a single vacum receptical on it instead of the dual receptical. I have dual vacume lines run'n up to it at the front of the head, but that is it.
I was look'n on Ebay and all I can find is 22R distributors.
One more thing. As I am dig'n into this I am missing all the "AIR INJECTION" stuff. Someone has removed it ALL !!!
Is this good or bad.
I thought this was some California thing but I guess this was on all 80 models ?!?!?!?!?

A local parts store should have a new distributor for a 20R, and i doubt they would be too expensive, maybe a little over $100. If are going to save money and use a 22R distributor, make sure that the connector is the same and use the the vacuum advance port that is farthest from the distributor.
How exactly is your current distributor messing up?
I believe that the air injection tubes are for both California and Federal smog. If you need a smog check, you will have to put everything back. This system is not required for the vehicle to run. If you leave everything off, make sure that all of the open ports are plugged so you do not get any vacuum leaks.

I just got a '79 pickup retrofitted with a 22R. The previous owner left a distributor cap, brand new in the box, behind the seat of the truck. He inadvertantly purchased a 20R cap, and it does not fit the 22R distributor at all. Totally different diameter on the distributor housings.
