1981 22r Toyota pickup won’t start after running
Hello I’m pretty inexperienced with carbureted engines I’m trying to diagnose my Toyota. My truck was having trouble idling and I found that my carburetor needed a rebuild so I put a rebuilt carburetor on. The truck will start and idle and run fine after it has been sitting but when I shut it off and go to start it again it will only start with the throttle all the way down and will run very poorly only at full throttle.
Any suggests to diagnose the problem will be much appreciated.

I'm assuming you are talking about having replaced the factory Aisin carb with a remanufactured factory style carburetor. It's very important that you use new gaskets and make sure the carb is sealed to the manifold without any vacuum leaks. Also, you must check and replace any old cracked or dry vacuum hoses throughout the entire system and ensure that they are properly hooked up.
Also, change your fuel filter if you haven't already. It's extremely easy to do.
The symptom you describe of only starting again by holding your foot all the way down is normal carburetor stuff. Do not pump the gas pedal again when you get back in, if you've already been driving and shut the truck off for a little while. Just hold your foot to the floor and turn the key until it starts.
Running poorly at full throttle can be caused by many things which we would need more info to diagnose.
- Clogged fuel, improperly adjusted float level, altitude, vacuum leaks, etc.
How far have you driven with the new carb? What do your spark plugs look like?
