After having the 4Runner "shift" once when up on smaller 2Ton stands I went out and got 6 Ton stands.

I still use the 2T ones - but only when I need em 1-3 teeth up..(under the axle tube). I usually stuff extra stands (not loaded - too many loaded stands makes things even tippier) in there in case something happens...

Yeah, the 2tons come in handy. Say your vehicle is up on stands (the big'ns)at the frame and you need to support a dangling driveline or (on IFS) the control arm assembly. I've done that before.

I'll bet the ground wasn't quite level or the axle wasn't seated in the post saddle too well. Nasty, nasty...

After using newer 3 ton jack stands, i finally got sick of them because they were always either too short and/or just didn't feel safe enough.

So i bought a couple pairs of 6 ton stands (23 1/2" reach)...50 times better!

i just saw some 2 ton jack stands at Aldi for 4.99 a pair. the whole kit in the box weighed less then one of my 3 ton stands. maybe they'd would work for a fiat 500 but nothing bigger than that.
