Topless4Runner feedback, So did I get screwed

You tell me, and if you have an idea, please let me know!...

In November of last year, I sent money to another member of Yotatech, Topless4Runner, for a soft top that he was going to fabricate for my 87 4Runner. You can read the conversation leading up to the deal here >>>>>

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f109...ft-top-112177/

I sent him my money through paypal. Everything was going great (or so I thought). He finished another top for another Yotatech member, and mine was almost done. Then, all communications from him stopped....Dead.... I emailed him, I PMed him from the site, paypal sent him an email, Amex couldn't because the payment was past 90 days.
His last communication to me was on 12/03/07. I have tried tracing him, to no avail. I know that he is reading my PMs, and that he has been on this site as recently as 10 days ago.....
So what do I do??? Do I just eat the $600??? I can't believe that I was so trusting, but you get caught up in the whole "family" thing of people on forums, it never crossed my mind that I would be screwed....
If any of you know Jeff and are in contact with him, please let me know.

Thank you ......

Ouch!! Looks like he went through a lot of trouble playing you guys. I don't understand why after going through that whole process of stuff, why he just dropped off... unless he wanted to get the money in hand from several people. That really sucks. I hope something works out with that.

Don't eat the $600 whatever you do. It's no use trying to get in touch with this Jeff if he doesn't want it to happen.

I'd call AMEX again, that's bs about 90 days, threaten to cancel your account with them, talk to as high up a manager as possible, keep B*#$@ing to they give in. Get your money back.

Post it in the right section first of all, then we can see about going after him.

Not being a mod or admin, i cant really tell you what can be done. I got screwed for $100 over on MR2OC.com, and nothing could be done about it.

Talk to AMEX again, see what can be done.

Meanwhile, contact a mod and see what can be done if anything. Often times on boards like this, pressure from other members will get the person to follow through. And if it starts to come down to it, you can im sure you can take legal action against him.

Im reminded of a certain legendary Pirate4x4 thread that worked out in the end for the person who got screwed over...

Not trying to get the guy flooded with Emails, but if he accidently blocked RoseTree, he needs to know that he has to pay up, or get the parts sent.

Man, that sucks.
I have limited experience buying from other members here, but
I have bought things before, through PayPal, and the members have been
nothing but a joy to work with. Shame you got the one guy in one hundred
who is in it to con you out of money.

Be sure and keep us updated on what happens.

I'm sorry, what is the right section to post it in?..and can I transfer this thread there?

I spoke to a moderator, and was told that there is nothing that they can do. There are disclaimers, and I understand why they are in place, that don't hold them responsible (not that I would). They won't contact Topless4Runner, but suggested that posting something on the forum might help.
As for legal action, it gets complicated because he lives in Canada.

BTW, what happened in the Pirate 4x4 incident?

You can also file a claim through your bank or credit card company. It would be a merchant dispute and the 90 days thing doesn't matter, it's the date you were expecting to receive the merchandise and/or the date you last attempted to resolve with the merchant.

I work fraud/merchant dispute cases for a bank, but we are signed with Visa, not AMEX. Still, the rules and regs should be close to the same.

I was PMing toona about the whole thing, but have not heard from him since 2/25...He was going to send me pix when he put his on and didn't...
I googled sailmakers in New Brunswick and called them (3) and no one had heard of him.
This is why I'm so frustrated, I'm coming up with dead ends...

i work for a bank too. banks will look at this either way. Most banks wont be able to assist you. Usually they will only do something if it was a transaction you didn't authorize. In this case it was authorized by you, so it is going to be between you and the merchant. Why would the bank take a loss for this?

Not to be rude but just saying...
