'00 Sequoia Won't Start
My wife has a '00 Sequoia and she has been complaining that sometimes it won't start. So today I drove it and I see what she means. It just turns over but won't fire. I hit the gas at one point and the engine kind of made a woof sound. Then I tried to start it again and the same thing, only this time hitting the gas did not start the car. I did not try it again, anyone have any advice as to what it may be. It has 4.7L V-8 with electronic fuel injection.
Thanks

I don't know the answer, but it sounds like something to do with the ECU. If so, it and all emissions components are covered under a separate warranty for California owners far more generous than other states. See your warranty guide supplement pamphlet, it could be a free repair.
Ask your dealer to do a code scan to diagnose further. Good luck and let us know.

OK Here's the scoop
Well after screwing around with my wife's Sequoia for a couple of weeks, I managed to contact NorCalJack and he said that the problem turned out to be his key transponder. He was able to get new keys reprogrammed for a $100 or so. I was not so lucky. A jumper test on the OBD-II connecter confirmed that the Anti-theft computer was Tango-Uniform. At that point I just called a tow truck and the dealer fixed me up for a mere $965. Runs like a champ now but I'm somewhat pissed at Toyota that my "Extracare" warranty was good for 6 yrs/100K and it crapped out at 7yrs/97K. So if your 'yota cranks but won't start, you might save some time and check your Anti-Theft computer first.
