I just got done installing the 13WL's (231mm setup) on my 2001 4Runner... I put together a pretty exhaustive write-up on it, including alot of hard to find specs & info on the calipers & rotors.

We place 2000 to 2006 Tundra brakes on 98 4-Runners... Just need to clearance the caliper to wheel just a bit. =-) Brembo rotors help out if you want slotted... =-)

I just read the thread on the write up and I always wondered how the backing plate needed to be cut, the pics cleared it right up!

NOW, I also see you had a wheel clearance issue with your spare. Is it the steel factory spare or aftermarket wheel? I have the 16X8 LC wheels and would like to know if anybody has had any fitment issues with the 231mm brakes and the LC wheels.

80 series LC wheels will not clear the 231mm caliper. You will have to do some grinding on either the caliper or the wheel, OR run wheel spacers on the front in order to get the proper clearance.

The spare that I used to test fit was the factory steel spare common to all 3rd gen 4Runners. I have since found an aftermarket wheel to use as a spare. Another solution would be to purchase a 1/4" wheel spacer (the type that slip over the studs), keep it in the truck at all times, and use it temporarily when installing the spare up front.

My spare is a LC wheel too. Hmm, don't know how much grinding I'd need to do to the caliper by chance do you?

More big brake action on Off-Road.com

I love this swap. So many upsides, you can't not.

This was my full coverage of the 231mm swap, including how to clearance the 16-inch split-spoke wheels.

What wheels/rims are you all running with the 231mm calipers and are you running any spacers? Pics would be great along with details.

Standard-issue 2002 Toyota 16" alloys. No spacers.

I wonder what the difference is on the LC80 wheels then. That's what I have so I guess if I go 231's then I'll need spacers. Any suggestions on spacers? I have 0 experience with them.

I just put some 1.5" wide on my 95 to clear the center caps, it's a 2WD. Nothing to them.
