I regularly tow 9000 lbs with my sc tacoma-- not by choice mind you. towing a heavy load sucks with a supercharger because you have to use the low end torque and the engine doesn't like it and starts pinging after a few seconds--there is no way to stop this, I have all the fuel mods--headers, intake, exhaust, injectors, safc and anything else and it still pings when towing. it doesnt ping when driving around normally. if i had a choice, id get a tundra for towing. small engines cant tow anything-- i dont care what anyone says--unless its like 2000lbs, which is nothing. for doing real work, get a v-8

ahhhh.....here's my answer. "A new 6.0-liter Power Stroke diesel engine is available for 2003 models that’s cleaner, more efficient, and more powerful than the outgoing 7.3-liter diesel. Though smaller in displacement, the new 6.0-liter turbo-diesel V8 is rated 550 lbs.-ft. of torque at 2000 rpm. The outgoing 7.3-liter Power Stroke turbo-diesel, available on early 2003 models, offered up to 525 lbs.-ft. at just 1600 rpm. The 6.0-liter engine produces 325 hp at 3300 rpm, compared with the 7.3-liter’s max 275 hp at 2800. "

I hope you don't plan on towing for a distance. You will kill the Taco.
The Tacoma is only rated to tow 5,000 lbs. But you need to look at the specs.
That 5,000 lb capacity is with a bone stock Tacoma with one 150 lb person, 1/2 tank of gas, no radio, no air no nothing.
When you add stuff to the Tacoma like gas ( 1 gallon of gas = 5.8 to 6.5 lbs) radio, and air you need to subtract these numbers from the 5,000 lb tow rating. Next thing you know, you have added 500 lbs of weight and reduced your towing capacity to 4,500 lbs.
I own a '97 GMC Yukon with a 5.7 liter V8 that weighs around 6,000 lbs. It has a towing capacity of 6,500 lbs.
I tow a 23', 5,000+ lb trailer. I have trouble in the mountain passes with the big V8 and sometimes in strong head winds it slows me down a bit.
Look at what my trailer does to the rear of my Yukon with only a 300 lb tongue
This is the reason i sold my '97 4runner and purchased the GMC.
If you are planning to tow often then i highly recomend going to a RV forum and read over some of the posts there. So often people purchase a travel trailer thinking there mimivan or small pickup will tow 5,000 lbs because that is what the manufacturer said.
You can tow that much if you are on a flat ground going short distance, but if you plan on adventuring farther then you might want to look at a different set up.
If you want any other info let me know. Just don't want to see you burn up your rig because of some bad advertisement.
Later.
