I am rewiring this into an aux fuse box and will use the relays and mini fuses to run transmission cooler fan and some lights. What accessories require the maxi fuses and why might the original box have been wired WITHOUT using a relay. Thanks

 

Well, I'm not sure you are asking the right questions. But, on a 4Runner, the Alt. takes a 100A fuse, ABS can be 40A, Heater can be 60A, the POWER relay circuit can be 40A. The rest are usually on the small fuses. Also, some maxi fuses may control a pile of snall ones. AMS1 and AMS2 are major circuits upstream of the key switch which then have smaller fuses downstream.

There is no single relay because Toyota uses that series of small relays to control key-on power. Also, some of those small-fuse circuits will be full-time, with no relay control. To use that thing as an aux. you really need to figure out how it is wired internally. The big fuses may feed some of those relays and small fuses may be on the downstream side of relays and others may be full-time or downstream of the big fuses. If you don't understand how it is set up internally, you will be in for some big surprises when you wire it up.

Do you plan to remove all the old wire harness parts ??

So you can then start fresh with just the bare fuse block and wire the circuits as needed ??

It is so much easier to just use a aftermarket fuse block.

 

The box is out of a jeep Cherokee. I've stripped the innards and using 6 of a the relays to run off the mini fuses and the 7th off a maxi fuse. The the remaining maxis will remain. Just curious how they might be used. I suspect they will remain idle.

I have owned Toyotas since 1985. Having issues with my 86 4Runner DLX. Can't find an OEM relays and the nearest U pull and pay is 3 1/2 hours away. Anyone here have a good, reliable online parts vendor?
