High Output Alternators 3rd Gen T4R

I am looking to add a fare amount of accessories to my 4runner and I have had bad luck in the past with frying my alternators. I have searched on every level for a reference into this subject and have been less than successful. If I can remember correctly, I recall I read about the use of either an aftermarket hi-output alternator (120-160amperes) for GM or Ford vehicles on 3.4L 5VZ-FE engines. Is this correct? What brand alternators can I use? Part Number? I'd prefer 160+amperes. Also, Do you use the stock brackets and electrical connection, or is that something I would have to fabricate on my own? Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have seen Toyota alternators that are rated at 120amps. these are usually aftermarket alternators. You may want to check with a local automotive supply house or Automotive Electrical supply. We have one in my area called DC Automotive who specialize in remanufacturing electrical automotive components such as alternators. Maybe you can locate one similar in your area. I too have been comtemplating an upgrade to a higher output alternator and this one I have considered. also if you are looking at higher usage search on dual battery set ups with isolators. You could then have one battery to supply some of your higher loads from one battery while still preserving your "normal" battery to start and operate the basic requirmenets of your truck. Just some thoughts. But as for higher output alternators there are some out there and using one of the modified 120amp Toyota alternator you would not (I would think you won't) have to modifiy any wiring. Post up any results of your outcome. Good Luck

Search toyota cs-144 swap, or some combo like that

swapping in the GM c2-144 alt isnt too hard to do, and doubles your alt power

My stock 2001 taco alternator was beefed up to 96 amps at idle, 166 amps max (it started off as 45/80 so they doubled it)

And like i did--you can put a big O Sears platinum battery by fabbing a new battery tray, bolting it to the battery support plate--modify the battery hold down and BOOM--done--took me about two hours in total--

I now have dual batteries--they just happen to be in the same battery case HHaaaa....but i was able to drive around for a week on the battery with no noticable change....

mean green makes them too so ive heard but they are expensive it is cheaper jus to have an alternator shop rebuild your with heavier wire and more wounds so that it will produce a higher output

For a bolt on Toyota alternator upgrade, look at the 2nd gen MR2 w/power steering and Lexus alternators. I know they're in the 110-130amp range.
