Anybody have a picture of the speacial service tool for the 3.0 valve adjustment?

I am going to be adjusting the valve lash on my 4Runner and was thinking about getting the SST. I have heard mixed opinions about if you need and how well it works. I was quoted 80 bucks for one when I called my toyota dealer so I want to make sure I need it before I buy it.

If anybody has a pic of one that would really help me on knowing how they work.

Thanks for this post.

I just ordered this valve adjustment tool from Amazon for $11.99

It is also listed as Alltrade 648829 Toyota Valve Adjustment Tool

The FSM says use SST 09248 – 55020 (09248–05011, 09248–05021)

I picked mine up at my local Canadian Tire for approx $20. I'd hate to try to remove a valve shim without it (although you could fab a tool to do it also, but for $20, it's not worth the hassle of making one).

Are we talking about the flat discs that sit on top of the valve "caps"? I used a pick to get mine out. The only thing I ever used when I redid my heads/valves was a valve spring compressor, pliers and a pick.
