3rd Gen Owners...Post Pics of Your Double DIN In Dash Navigation...

Those of you with pics of your Double DIN in dash navigation systems, please post some pictures. With the Dakota Digital gauges that I've got mounted in the lower DIN opening of my truck, I just don't think that a single DIN DVD/Navigation will work since it will have to be mounted in the upper DIN opening and the screen will block the A/C controls while I'm driving. Let's see what ya got! Thanks.

our dash, well especially before the climate controls went digital, are a bitch to install anything into.

the photobucket in my sig has pictures of my screen on a gooseneck, which i will replace with a hard mount one of these days, when i create one that doesnt suck, and in doing that prolly replacing the stock console.

the radio location is too far away, and too low to be a viable spot for a nav/touch screen.

not exactly sure on the specifics of your trucks dash, but if its like the 4runners, it would be best to relocate the HVAC controls somewhere else.

Couldn't you move the gauges up and mount the nav in the lower spot? I have a single din hu and a single din 6 cd changer. I had to move the hu down because if I recall there was more room behind the bottom location.

Can't move the gauges because the piece that encloses them was custom cut and then adhered to the center console with a very strong epoxy, so they won't be moving without some serious work, although I might could get it off there (don't know if it would be salvageable or not though).

I know I've seen some folks on here with pics of Double DIN sized navigation systems in their 4Runner. I just can't remember who it was. It has been some time ago. I'd love to do this mod if I'm going to keep this truck as long as I think I am.

I guess I could go the single DIN route, but would rather not mess around with that because I would probably have to relocate the gauges in order to not block the A/C controls. If I could find a Double DIN navigation system, I'd like that.

Check over at http://www.toyota-4runner.org I remember seeing a bunch of pioneer and ecilpse installs there. I am thinking of doing an eclipse nav soon and from what I have seen the fuji/eclipse units fit just like stock (which also are made by fuji-10).

ssbogger and 4-runnin' freak have the oem nav installed. search for 'oem navigation' and you should find what you need. not sure what brand you are getting but the idea should be the same.

Certain motorized single din lcd screens will not fit in the upper din. They will be too tall to fully extend 90 degrees vertical, and will strike the upper dash (at least for 96-98's) where the cupholder comes out.

You may not like the idea but a seperate unit maybe a good choice, it's cheap, it's easily mountable (windsheild mount, pro-fit mount), and a heck of a lot cheaper.

I went a totally different route and decided for the cost of a nav unit (Eclipse double din) I could put a full carputer setup in. It is great, but it certainly was a lot of work. The amount of wiring behind my dash would make some faint (usb, power, vga, gps, sat radio wiring, rca's, cb coax).

My Eclipse unit (by Fujitsu Ten) fits great.
Only issue I have with it is that if I am Park, I cannot change CD/DVDs, as the display does not have enough space to open fully.
I am considering upgrading the Eclipse AVN-7000 (1DIN). As I understand, it retracts when not in use (engine is off) anyways, so if I need to adjust the a/c, retract it, adjust, and have it come back out.

Install was also easy. With the exception of the speed signal (took me some studying to find the speed cable location...), it took me less than an hour to get it in. Not much different from a regular radio install.

I am still trying to figure out how to put a pics up, sorry.

And, if I am correct, it has a removable face.
