How to clean pitted wheels?

Hey, i just bought a tacoma and the wheels have a residue on them im guessing they are pitted. i was wondering if it is possible to get that off? im thinking wheel cleaner acid. i wish i had some pics but i dont think ill have any until thursday-ish. thanks

Eagle one makes a god etching cleaner. It will eat the clear finish off of them if you just let it soak. I used it on my stock 97 4runer wheels when i got it the PO did not have them clean. Get them clean with that then you can keep them clean with a milder cleaner,unless they are messed up keep using the eagle one

Oh ok. i was talking to a mechanic today and he said that its hard to get aluminum looking like new again once pitted. so im gonna take them to a refinisher and see if he can do them, if its too much ill just buy new rims. thanks.

Why not just sand them down and paint them black. The you can touch em up as much as you want.

i didnt think about that, but i know the refinisher so hes gonna do them for 25 per wheel so i think ill just do that. thanks anyway though

Wheels

I have a body-shop friend that said gasket remover works well on Aluminum rims. Said it leaves a bright brush-type finish.
I have not tried this myself, so not sure if it'll work or not.

I tried getting it of with gasket cleaner and it didnt work. so im just gonna paint them black, thanks.
