BFGoodrich All Terrain do well in the snow?

I have a 92 4runner 3.0 5 Speed with 32x11.50R15/6 BF Goodrich All Terrains and wondering how they will handle in the snow. Had this 4runner for a while and been to the mountains but never in the snow. Im planning on heading up to the mountains in a snow storm or right after one, wondering if the law requires chains on these tires, or if they are classified as snow tires and i should be fine.

You should be fine. I think they have the severe weather rating.
I had em on a landcruiser I used to have and loved them. I think they are a great snow tire, just my experience.
Oh you should'nt need chains.

Very well for an all terrain. Maybe the best all terrain for snow.

If you are not against anything more aggressive than a allterrain then some of the best deep snow tires are Irok's, Rockers, MTR's, TSL's...

Wide tires don't steer worth a shat in the snow.

Nittos are a bit better in the snow and ice but the BFGs are fine. I have more a few winters experience with both on 3rd gens and a couple of older toyotas.

It is highly unlikely you will need chains but you need to bring in case you are forced to install them. Often it's not so much about the law as it is the discretion of the waving people through to directing them to install chains.

It snows almost every nite where I live and they never let me down. They were on the truck when I bought it . I bought another set last year.

If i remember right some of the sizes aren't rated for severe winter driving. look for the snowflake symbol on the sidewall to see if yours are. Mine are awesome in the snow, only right now I dont have any weight in the bed so they can lose traction when i'm in 2wd, especially backing up icy hills.

I'm thinking about getting these same tires how do they compare to the bfg mud tires in general? I'm running the mud tires now and looking to switch. I do mostly in town driving and weekend hunting/4wheeling.

they're similar to the mud terrain, only less noisy, more miles per set, and they dont clean out mud as well.

32x11.5's rub on the pinch weld on the p/u's anyway. i think there is a narrower 32 (32x9.5?) that doesen't rub with the correct backspacing on 4runners anyway. do a search there some old threads on that topic, as well as a ton of what tire size will fit with what threads on here, and in the pirate 4x4 toyota FAQ.

The all terrain is not very good offroad. But onroad, snow they rock. It's a trade off, off road performance for on road performance.

But to answer your question, the BFG all-terrain is great in the snow. I wish I could afford a set for winter.

go to tirerack.com and check out the comparisons for snow and ice. some overrate their brands, but overall a good evaluation.

AT's are street tires that work offroad.
MT's are true offroad tires.
