Adding a trailer wire harness (05 Tacoma)
Hey guys,
I'm in a bit of a bind, i'm a total trailer/towing noob, so please bear with me...anyway, i completely forgot about wiring for the trailer lights and my 05 Tacoma PreRunner SR5 4dr (RWD) did not come with a tow package. and I leave for a trip Friday afternoon.
I'm not new to wiring, so I am just wondering if there is a special harness i must purchase or can i simply tap the wires at the tail light?
Thanks!

Thanks for the speedy reply 4Crawler!
So nothing special, just tap and go?
I looked up under there and i don't see any plugs inline with the harness...
I'll make some calls and see what i can find.

Thanks again 4Crawler.
I decided to go with the OEM harness from the dealer, the truck is actually my fathers, and he's a bit leary of me towing a car 600 miles...so i'd rather stick to the factory part, retain warranty, keep my dad from having a heart attack, etc, etc...lol
$100 is a bit pricey, but i'll bite the bullet to keep my dad happy.
I'll post back up with the part number when i get it incase anybody else needs that info.

The OEM kit is pretty nice. Comes with everything you need to install it. And now that i have seen it/installed it...It's worthy of the $115. Install was very easy and it took maybe 30-45 mins.
The harness is fully loomed, taped and protected and also comes with a new rubber grommet already in place to go through the floor board under the drivers seat.
Tacoma Hitch Kit (works for all 05+ Tacoma models)
Part number: 08921-04960
$115 out the door
x1 - main harness (long)
x1 - short harness with trailer connector & bracket
x1 - converter box w/bracket
x1 - relay
x2 - 30amp fuses
plus all zipties and bolts
EDIT: Thought i'd add a plug for the dealer i went to. Quality Toyota in Corona, CA. Super nice and helpfull parts department!
