Windshield Washer not working 1987 SR5
Hello, I realize that this needs to work for inspection in PA so I need to fix it inexpensively. I am thinking that I need a replacement pump because I removed the tank and disconnected the plug aside of battery. Then i applied battery power to the two connector prongs and nothing from pump. Should this be a good way to determine if pump is dead? I don't want to remove the wiper combo switch if it only the pump is bad.
2) my pump is attached on the outside of washer tank. Is it removeable (how) or do I need a new/ used tank as well?
3) lastly this truck's switch handle is missing the end cap. I only see white plastic around a metal rod. I think that it should still work just by pressing in the end. The cruise control DOES work ok by rotating the plastic exposed parts.
4) there is a junkyard SR5 that I can get a switch off BUT it does not have CRUISE. Do you think it would work (I assume it would fit the harness but just not have cruise anymore which my daughter doesn't ever use anyway)
Lots of Qs from a frustrated dad.
Thanks Jim

You probably just need a new pump. I had to the do the same thing when I got my truck. I tested it with a jumper wire to the battery and just like you, nothing happened. I got a new pump from AutoZone (it looked just like the oem pump) and wired it in and it worked. Just tell them what truck you need it for and they should have it. I think it was around $15 or so.
Edit: I found it on their website: http://www.autozone.com/R,APP292916/...ductDetail.htm

RDLsz24 Thanks
Thanks, I hope that is what it is. How did you get your old one off the tank? Pry it off? How did your new part seal up? Did it come with new rubber seals?

If I remember correctly to remove the old pump you pull out and then up on it and it slides away from the reservoir tank. I don't think the new one came with the rubber seal. When you take the old pump off the seal should stay with the reservoir tank. Hopefully you can reuse yours.
Edit: I just looked at a picture of the reservoir tank. After pulling out on the old pump, you pulll down to remove it, not up. And yes, you may have to pry with a screwdriver, etc. Just don't poke a hole in the reservoir tank!

Here is a link to some Toyota Factory Service manuals, you should be able to find a diagram or procedure in there...

I got a junk part that works
I just have to wire it in. I tested it with a portable battery and it pumps. Thanks for all the help and offers of help. I got a the pump still installed on the reservoir and plugs and hose plus some other small things I needed all for 5 bucks at my local yard.
