Marker lights into turn signals

What all is Required to convert my side marker lights into turn signals? I have a 87 pickup, only im using the marker lights off a 86, no difference i can see between the two. I have a trail gear bumper and just want a cleaner look without those huge blinkers zip-tied to the bumper. Any help/pictures is greatly appreciated. This is how my tuck sits when i put on the 32's. Roll bar isn't fully bolted in just yet.Name: Lookingood.jpg

Ive seen threads on the 89 and up trucks that's why i was wondering if the housing is big enough to do it.

It should be. Take one off and see what you have to work with...
These are the examples I could find. I know that it has been done on 84-88's.. I was able to squeeze it in on my '81, the 2nd Gen should have more room:

Put the turn signal in with the parking light.

1) Remove the turnsignal and Headlight Bezel

2) cut out the turnsignal bulb socket, I used a 1" butterfly bit to drill just under the parking light (drill slowly-this plastic is old and brittle)

3) I ground down the sides to allow to fit in the edges of the bezel and left a lip to allow the plasti weld to bond to (clean all the old dirt and junk out) my lenses were due for a cleaning anyway

4) apply liberal amounts of plasti weld or epoxy:

5) installed just replace the parking light lense:

cheap easy and it actually allows the signal to be seen from the side.

I found some sockets/pigtails off a couple of Honda Civic corners. Not the same sockets as described in Ritzy4Runner's thread but there you go.
It was his thread: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/c...tacoma-132967/ that inspired this mod. It's only an addition to the upcoming side turn signals, but I think a decent one.

Drill hole for socket. Notch hole for socket tabs (the Accord socket described in the link would be a lot better, no notches, nice grommet style) I used tape on a pencil to get any scraps out of the lens. There's actually 2 wires here, you just can't see one. I extended them with wire so they could reach the front turn signal from the marker light:

Strip covering off to expose and cut front turn signal wires.

Today it was too cold to solder so I used butt connectors to attach the green wire (+) from the turn signal and the red Honda wire (+) to the other side of the green turn signal (+). I did the same with the white turn signal wires (-) and the black Honda wire (-). Sorry, both my wire extensions are white, you'll just have to imagine that they connect to the correct colored wire!

Another view of same:

And here's both sockets installed in the side marker. For now I am using a 194 bulb for the marker light and a brighter 168 for the turn signal.

Both the markers and turn signals work. I tried to take pics of the action but, um. Yeah. No...
Off:

On- see the second bulb?:

Not as bright as the 1156 in the front turn signal but noticeable and can be seen from the side when you're coming up on it which makes it an improvement over the nothing that was there before.

I did this just because I felt like working on the truck today. I'll likely solder, heat shrink and wrap in warmer times. Don't know if they make a brighter T10 wedge than the 168 without going to LED. I'll be researching that.
Thanks to Ritzy4Runner for his very helpful thread.

There are two bulbs that are brighter than the 168/194 that work nicely in habanero's set-up which I also run. They are the 921 brightest and the 906 is a bit dimmer. I purchased a couple of rubber 168/194 mini bulb sockets and wired them into the existing circuit using a 921na natural amber bulb. Works great, easy to do....

Add'l pics in post 514:

OP, looks like your corners are all amber, so use the clear bulb for maximum brightness.

Is this what you have drew? I considered it just didnt know how bright it truly would be. All my buddies are saying i should just go with the Turn signal in the marker light.

Did mine 15 years ago w/ an 1157 dual filament bulb:

This is the elegant solution!. Thanks, 4Crawler, for sharing your knowledge/experience with fellow runner owners. Your website is commendable.

This is how I did mine:

ok here we go, bear with me cus I aint good on writeups, first his in an 87 truck, yours might be different.

Step 1: Locate your turn corner lights. Don't know where they are? Why are you even here in this thread?

Step 2: Locate removal screws (there are 3 of them 1 on top, two on bottom).

Step 3: Remove corner lamps.

Step 4: Drill grind or whatever to make hole large enough to fit sockets. I used a 1 1/8 hole saw for the Dorman Brand #85860 1157 sockets available at A&A Auto Parts. Cost me $2.79 a piece. Don't know how many to buy? See step #1.

Original

Drilled

Step 3: Remove OEM harness connector and then attach an OEM wire to the ground location using a quick disconnect. Then figure out which wire on the Dorman socket goes to the brightest filament by attaching each wire to the other available OEM wire.

Step 4: Tap into the OEM turn signal wire and attach it to the last available wire on the Dorman socket. The OEM wire you want to use is the wire in the center of the connector not the one on the edge (Sorry Forgot to take a photo)

Step 5: As mentioned earlier in the thread, the larger bulb will not fit all the way in because it hits the Light cover. As mentioned earlier I used a pill bottle cap and drilled the same 1 1/8" hole in that. Place the bottle cap around the socket and using any adhesive/sealant ( I used Permatex clear RTV Silicone) seal the socket to the cap and after placing the socket into the corner light assembly.

Step 6 re-attach your new turn signal back onto the truck. Don't know how to? See step #1 again.

Here are comparisons.

NEW

OLD

Passenger light is the new, Driver light is the old

And indirectly, a gal too, since a couple of us mentioned Habanero.
