ive seen people put a spoiler (i guess from a later gen runner) on the 1st gen and i was interested in doing the same. didnt really seen any info on it. im tired of getting exhaust through the back window should i need to roll it down.

me and my cousine created a ricer-spoof out of his Dodge Neon, with some cardboard, lmao. I wish I could find those pics; we had a cowl induction hood, a front bumper, and a wig made up; it was sick looking that thing was a POS, lol

 

hahaha, a buddy of mine in high school used to make cardboard body kits for his old crx to make fun of all the honda kids.

 

I picked one up from a junkyard off of a 2nd gen 4Runner, but any will do. I made my own brackets by bending some flat stock from home depot. Works well, and cost me less then 20 bucks. I can take some better pics of the brackets tomorrow if you need em. I have the rear window down all the time on the way to the dog park......... No exhaust smell. Good luck...

Sorry it took me so long. The pics aren't great, but you will get the point.

The deflector I got was off a 93 4Runner I believe, just try to find one without the 3rd brake light cut out. Any wing will do, correct width matters I guess. I just happened to be at a yota yard so I grabbed it.

I started with 3/4 flat stock from home depot. I used a vise, torch (optional) a rubber mallet and a sawzall to do the majority of the work. The tough part is getting both brackets to look close to each other, which is why I heated up the metal, gave me more consistent bends. Then file, drill your holes, paint and install. Don't do like I did and start writing down the measurements AFTER the first one. Then you will have to make 3 and toss the first one for fugliness.

I used self tapping hex head screws from Harbor freight. This helps put the bracket onto the top since you can use a rachet to put em in. It was a pain trying to get a regular screw in at an angle with a cordless drill. Regular nuts and bolts to secure the wing, and presto change-o, exhaust smell headache is gone.

I started the bracket at the crease on the fiberglass, and extended it about an inch above the top in order to redirect enough air to make it worth your while. Good luck.

Oh yeah, I used some billy mays magic putty to seal/secure the bracket to the top, but any epoxy would work. I guess I was paranoid of a 3 foot wide piece of metal flying off the back of my rig, but who knows if its needed.

Funny. My little bro has an 89 runner and has tried getting me to do the same, but he hasn't even picked up a deflector yet. And do his ISR mod, And repaint his top, And And And. So far, all he has gotten out of me is to fix his stereo that some dumb coworker hacked up the wiring. his stereo would turn on by switching on the parking lights, without the key! He even sold off his amp and sub bc he couldn't get rid of the alternator whine, turns out it was a floating ground from the head unit all the way back under the rear seat. Get what you pay for I guess.

Sorry I couldn't get you any better pics. My garage is too bright for the camera, and turning off the lights strangely gets me even worse pics, the flash sucks. If you need better pics, let me know I will take more outside.

Yea even my 2nd gen runner didn't come with that deflector. so if i have the window down and inch, hello exhaust fumes.
