how much brake fluid?

how much brake fluid?
I want to do a full flush on my brakes as the fluid is original and looks more like ATF then brake fluid. I have an auto bleeder but I was wondering how much fluid will the truck take to do a complete flush?

I'm a little anal and I get on 32 oz of brake fluid and a 12oz.
Here's a how to on the motive bleeder. Scroll down to the bottom half of the page smash here
He recomends 36 oz which is about right. Plus the 32 oz size is a lot cheaper than getting multiple 12oz bottles.
Good luck!

I use 1 litre when I do my 4Runner, that's usually more then enough with the Motive bleeder. It doesn't cost that much more then the samller bottle and you don't want to run out when you're on the last wheel.
And use a new bottle, not the stuff that's been sitting around opened in the garage for months.

thanks for the link. That is the same bleeder that I have. I remembered something about 2 litres but I was unsure if I was going to need to refill. That answered all of my questions - you guys rock!

extra is OK as I need to do the clutch as well and maybe my Camry. Does anybody know off the top of their head how often we should be replacing these fluids. I am at work and don't have my book with me.

I do mine every time I replace my brake pads... You really only need to if you open a seal on the system.
Brake fluid is designed to adsorbs moisture to keep your brake system from rusting.... which could flash to steam if enough gets in there causing the dreaded pedal to the floor sensation....
Which would take a long time to develop (think in terms of years) unless you drive around with your cap off the reservoir....
I tow a bit and replace my pads once a year if they need it or not. When I was younger I had that dreaded grinding noise + the large bill.....
If its looking like atf its time for a change....

Most newer vehicles with ABS and stuff recommend brake fluid be replaced every 2 years. I do all 3 vehicles every 2 years, makes me feel like I'm getting my moneys worth out of my Motive bleeder, and $20 of brake fluid is cheap insurance against possible problems.

i really need to do a brake fluid flush in my '91, as well as the clutch hydraulics. the stuff is a nice orangish brown color. big change from my '79, where it seeps out of both, so i've never had to flush it
