2nd Gen 4Runner Rear Spoiler?

When I bought my 4runner it had a really nice dark tinted plastic rear spoiler installed which to me looked like it was from the factory. Well anyways a couple of years back I got it caught up in a tree and it got shattered. Does anyone know if these were in fact available from Toyota or not?

When I look for rear spoilers on ebay all I find is the steel one that most people seem to have. I really liked the plastic one because it didn't need the third brake light cutout since it was plastic and the light shined through it.. Anyone ever seen one for sale, are they really that rare?

Toyota did make one. same material as the bug deflectors. The first time I added a rear deflector to my 1st gen, I found the plastic one you are talking about. I remember seeing a toyota logo on it. When I grabbed one at the j yard for my current 4Runner, they only had metal ones.

BTW, neither of them have the cutouts for the 3rd brake light. Not all 2nd gen 4runner came with 3rd brake lights.

Mine is metal, but it feels pretty light so I'm thinking it's made out of aluminum.

The spoilers were Toyota factory option. '90-'93 had the solid one, '94-'95 had the ones with the cut out since '94-'95's have the third brake light. All the ones I have seen were plastic- like the bug deflectors.

I have one of the metal ones, do they serve a purpose or are they just for looks?

Well, I can roll down the back window for the dogs and not smell exhaust now. And my windows stays cleaner. Good enough reason for me.

I still get exhaust inside with the spoiler and the window down. It's not bad though. I used to not have mine installed because I couldn't find the mounting screws anywhere but the dealership, and they wanted like $5 a piece for them. I finally found some at pick n pull and put that sucker on there.

The rear spoiler also makes downforce on the rear end for high speeds lol.

why do you want the spoiler? exhaust fumes get in either way... seems to look kinda dorky anyway

EXHAUST FUMES DON'T GET IN MY RIG. If I keep the front windows up and just put down the rear one. If I don't have a pair of dogs back there, then I have the window up.

Hey I think I should have first dibs on any spoilers in this thread!! lol

The biggest reason I want to install one is for the fumes, the moment my rear window goes down the cabin gets smoked out horribly. And it doesn't help that the 3VZE isn't the cleanest burning engine either... lol

Oh and seeing as I still have the mounts there, I figure I might as well put a spoiler back on.
