Video: FZJ80 Land Cruiser Bounds Through the Snow Like a Puppy Dog
Toyota’s 80-series Land Cruiser makes for a great off-roader — and it’s a great way to haul your cross-country skiing equipment.
Petrolicious is best known for their artfully produced videos of high-end classic and exotic cars. Simply put, Yota Tech isn’t exactly the sort of place you’d expect to see a Petrolicious video.
Their “Morning Coffee” series offers short, bite-sized bits of car culture. It’s a great way to start your day. That’s especially true when the subject of this latest video is a Toyota Land Cruiser.
We’re pleasantly surprised that this video isn’t a million-dollar Ferrari or some rescued one-in-a-million barn find. We enjoy those videos, of course, but hey, we’re Toyota people here. What did you expect?
Of course, classic FJ40 Land Cruisers have been the darlings of the enthusiast community at large for quite a while now. The Land Cruiser in this video isn’t an FJ40, though. It’s a much more modern and much more luxurious FZJ80 from the late 1990s.
Birth of a New Classic
It’s pretty wild to think that cars we grew up around are becoming classics now, but that’s the natural order of things. If you didn’t see the FZJ80 Land Cruiser as a classic before, this beautifully-shot video will change your mind with a quickness.
What’s not to love, anyway? The FZJ80’s roomy, comfortable interior is very modern compared to the spartan FJ40. Plus, the metal roof is far preferable to a folding soft top in winter weather like this.
In addition, the FZJ80’s 1FZ-FE inline six is good for a respectable 275 lb/ft of torque. As seen in the video, it’s more than enough to propel this Land Cruiser through the snow with style.
Indeed, this lifted, mildly modified Land Cruiser bounds through the powder like a Saint Bernard. It looks like a lot of fun, and we wish this video had come along earlier in the season. It would have made waiting for spring much easier.
As a sort of last hurrah for winter, though, this video is a great send-off. We hope to see more of this truck as the temperatures rise, the snow melts, and that hard-packed dirt turns into mud.
