Toyota Slays Vehicle Potential Lifespan Ranking List

2023 Toyota Sequoia

In a recent study, Toyota absolutely dominated the Lifespan Ranking List competition. No other manufacturer came anywhere close.

Last week, I posted about a Car Wizard video detailing everything wrong with a 2002 Toyota Tacoma. It was in rough shape, and needed $4,000 in work. Getting it factory fresh would obviously cost far more. But at the end of the clip, the Wizard concluded that while $4k isn’t exactly chump change, investing in the repairs was a good bet. And I’d wager that a lot of folks here on YotaTech would have chosen to dig in and not give up.

Well,  if you were in the dig in camp? The data supports your conclusions. Because a recent study from our friends over at iSeeCars ranked the top 20 vehicles most likely to have a long lifespan — and Toyota totally killed it. Not only did the company’s Sequoia come in first, but the Japanese giant also occupied another five spots in the top ten. While both General Motors and Honda were represented, no other manufacturer even came close.

To be specific, it was the Sequoia, followed by the Toyota Land Cruiser, Chevrolet Suburban, Toyota Tundra, GMC Yukon, Toyota Prius, Chevrolet Tahoe, Honda Ridgeline, Toyota Avalon, and Toyota Highlander Hybrid. Not content to just demolish the top ten, Toyota also garnered another four entries between places 11 and 20. In what will come as a surprise to absolutely nobody with even a passing interest in cars, there wasn’t a single European manufacturer represented anywhere.

For the record, the Tacoma came in at number 17, which isn’t bad either. Remember: every vehicle on the list had a projected lifespan well north of the 200,000-mile mark, so it’s not like the little rig was dragging down the curve. If you’re curious, you can head over and read the full report for yourself, and while you’re there, take a look at some of the other great content iSeeCars has put together. Like they say, data is beautiful — particularly when it confirms what you knew all along.
