Toyota 4Runner

Toyota pickups and 4Runners from the early eras are shown in every imaginable form — from off-roaders to daily drivers — and all are awesome!

The section on YotaTech that pertains to Toyota pickups and 4Runners from 1986 through 1995 is the busiest on the forum, with more than 63,530 threads and more than 816,000 posts. With that in mind, it should come as little surprise that one of the T comes from that section, while also offering the greatest opportunity to kill time while flipping through pictures of Toyota trucks and SUVs.

This thread was started by “Toylocost” back in July of 2007 and since then, there have been thousands of pictures shared in 16,857 replies. This thread shows the wide variety in the look and use of these trucks and SUVs, with off-road toys, daily drivers, work horses and more, and as the thread enters its 14th year, it isn’t slowing down. In fact, the last post was made on December 28, 2019.

Toyota Pickup and 4Runner Show-Off Thread

When the OP first started this thread back in 2007, he posted a basic introduction and a picture of his own 1991 Toyota pickup. He likely didn’t imagine that in 2020, people would still be posting on his show-off thread.

I dont know if this was done in this section yet but I didn’t see one so I’m making one.

So it will be 2nd/3rd gen pickups, and 1st/2nd gen 4Runners with IFS.

Here is my wonderfully stock ’91- EDIT: Now sold.

1991 Toyota Pickup

The first page of this thread, even back in 2007, offered a preview of what this popular sub-segment of the community had to offer. The thread begins with a couple stock-looking Toyota trucks, but it also features a few modified 4Runners and several modified trucks from the different eras.

The only downside with a thread of this age is that some of the pictures no longer show up. Some people used hosting sites that no longer exist, some people uploaded images to the forum which were lost with software upgrades over the past decade and some people posted on websites that no longer offer free hosting. The result of these three groups of people is broken images, but the vast majority of the pictures still work.

In flipping through the hundreds of pages and thousands of posts, we picked out just a few to show off in this article. On page 400, “Conquistador” shared his yellow Toyota pickup.

On page 551, “ChefYota4x4” shared his red 4Runner playing off-road and on page 700, “Toyota~Boy” showed off his Toyota that was nose-down in a deep mud hole.

Classic Pickup

In some cases, members shared pictures of themselves with their Toyota pickup or 4Runner, including “SMOD” on page 800, as shown below.

Finally, the last vehicle shown off in this thread was an old school 4Runner getting a little love in a wash bay, posted by “Teufelhunden223”.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
