Tacoma Tiny Home Traverses U.S. in Search of Adventure

By -

The 2005 Tacoma TRD Off-Road is perfectly capable both as a mode of transport and as living quarters.

The tiny home craze has swept the nation. Ever since their first exposure on television networks like HGTV, Americans have been dropping their master suites and mortgages to take on the tiny lifestyle. Tiny home owners boast that the financial freedom found aids in more adventure, more flexibility, and more peace.

Just as many of us have fallen into the reliable arms of the Toyota Tacoma; The sweet, sweet Japanese workhorse that’s been getting the job done time and again for decades. These trucks stick around like the beloved family dog that just won’t die. In an industry where values regularly plummet, Tacomas hold their own. Now take that, throw on a house, and you’ve got all you could ever need: An ultra-trustworthy home on wheels. What could be better? The YouTube channel Down2mob Overland reveals precisely how enjoyable just such a setup can be in a rad new video.

Overlanders

We’re first introduced to Tobias Scott, an outdoor enthusiast, kayaker, and traveler. Scott drives a 2005 Tacoma TRD Off-Road 4×4 which also doubles as his primary abode. In the bed is a custom-built wooden enclosure that houses all of his daily needs from a wood fire stove to a camp griddle, laundry, storage cubbies, and seating for three.

Mated to the wooden box is a pop-up tent with the bottom cut out for easy access to the rest of the living space. With the simple sliding of three boards, Scott is able to sleep comfortably above the bed of the truck inside the pop-up tent.

Scott is an avid kayaker with an impressive gear setup. Attached to the side of the house are twin racks storing Scott’s four kayaks. The racks are easily removed via a slide pin in the event a narrower width is required in his travels.

Inside Scott keeps a chainsaw for cutting wood for the woodstove. Scott claims the wood stove will burn for about three to four hours before needing to be refueled.

The Tacoma is a vast upgrade from the hefty ambulance Scott lived out of for the previous three years. Scott relays that getting around is much easier as the ambulance was prone to getting stuck often.

Wherever your next Overlanding adventure lies, Scott has proven the Tacoma to be a perfect companion.
