Supercharged Toyota Tundra Rips Quarter-Mile in 12.8-Seconds

By -

One big power adder and a few bolt-ons are all it takes to transform a Tundra into a drag racing terror.

The Toyota Tundra isn’t typically something you think of as a drag strip demon. But in all fairness, neither is any other full-size pickup. No, the Tundra was designed to haul and tow heavy loads in supreme comfort with total reliability. But that doesn’t mean you can’t make one fast, apparently. At least, Bahrain-based tuner EKanoo Racing has transformed this widebodied beast into a quarter-mile terror with a host of mods.

EKanoo has been racing this particular pickup for some time now, documenting their exploits on YouTube. And after a lot of trail and error, they managed to score a pretty impressive personal best quarter-mile time of 12.8-seconds at 108 mph in this particular video. Obviously, that’s fast enough to catch a large number of “sports cars” by surprise. Unless you’re driving a pretty solid performer, you’ll probably be starting at this big blue Tundra’s tailgate, in fact.

Making enough power to propel such a big heavy brick down the drag strip requires big mods, of course. And the main power adder in this case is a Harrop Supercharger. But the Tundra also breathes easy through a set of American Racing headers and a cat-back exhaust. And of course, Kanoo Performance did the tuning themselves to make all of these mods work happily together. Total output is said to be north of 600 horsepower.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, too. We can only imagine what this Tundra would run with, say, a stall converter for the transmission. Or perhaps a stickier set of tires. Or maybe a bigger cam or some head work. But for now, this Tundra is something that anyone could replicate pretty easily. All of the mods are basically bolt-ons, requiring not too much skill to install.

So perhaps it’s time we start taking Toyota’s full-size pickup seriously as a dragster. Perhaps it’s time for more of us to mod these things and take them down to our local tracks. If nothing else, you’re bound to catch more than a few unsuspecting souls off guard when you lay the gap on them. And to us, that makes a build worth every penny.
