Million-Mile Toyota Hilux Is Still Going Strong
The Hilux has long been known for being indestructible, but this well-worn million-mile Toyota Hilux cements that status for life.
Toyota has long held a reputation for making some of the most reliable vehicles on the planet, but few of its creations can live up to the immense hype surrounding the Hilux pickup sold in a number of global markets. Thanks largely to a rather famous appearance on Top Gear, the Toyota Hilux has earned a reputation for being completely indestructible, a machine that simply keeps on ticking, no matter what sort of abuse it’s subjected to. Recently, the folks behind the YouTube channel High Mileage Reviews had the chance to check out a Toyota Hilux with a million miles on the clock, which only helps further cement the iconic model’s stellar reputation for reliability.
Reaching a million miles in any vehicle is a notable feat, and not something we see terribly often. After all, vehicles typically experience myriad mechanical issues or simply rust away over time, even with proper care and maintenance. As one might imagine, this Toyota Hilux isn’t what one might call pretty, but it has stood the test of time far better than most.
Littered with battle scars such as scratches and faded paint, one might pass right on by this Hilux sitting in a parking lot and simply assume that it’s just any old beat-up pickup that has lived a hard life. However, this particular Hilux has resided in California and the Southwest its entire life, not as some daily driver – but rather, a truck that has seen its fair share of off-road and rally racing action.
In spite of this abuse and the fact that the Hilux was in a head-on collision when it was essentially brand new, the truck just keeps on chugging to this day, showing its age cosmetically, but not necessarily mechanically, as everything still works as it should. It’s dirty, beat up, and downright nasty in some regards, but this is all by design – after all, the Hilux was created with the intention of making an indestructible pickup, and Toyota clearly hit the nail squarely on the head in that regard.
