Jesus Take the Wheel: Holy Man Steals Toyota, Offers Terrible Excuse

Yep, the devil made him do it.

Nigerian pastor Jeremiah Ehindero was recently arrested for stealing a Toyota Highlander SUV from a car dealer. When the pastor of the Jesus Miracle Church was caught by law enforcement, he offered police an unusual excuse. No, it wasn’t an act of God. It came from further down: The devil made him do it.

Now, we understand being tempted by a sweet Yota, but, really?

According to Nigerian newspaper The Daily Post, Ehindero went to a car dealership looking for a Toyota Highlander SUV to be used for his evangelism work. The dealer gave him a big discount, as he appeared to be working for the big man upstairs. But when the holy man took the Highlander for test drive, he just kept on going, leaving just a trail of holy smoke.

The spirit must have guided him to a chop shop, where he sold the Highlander for parts.

Meanwhile, the dealer waited. And waited. And after 24 hours he realized that the pastor was not returning. He contacted the police, who tracked down the stolen Highlander. His accomplices were arrested, and the the pastor later apprehended at his home.

But when speaking to the police, Ehindero decided to drop a little bombshell.

“I decided to steal the SUV to sell and use the proceeds to repay the [$1,795] loan I borrowed from a microfinance bank in Lagos.” he explained. He explained the loan was to be used for church renovations. However, he blamed his parishioners for not contributing enough to help repay the debt. “I was surprised that for three months, no money was realized to repay the loan.”

But even that was not the true motive.

“When the pressure from the microfinance bank became unbearable for me, the devil told me to steal a vehicle from the car dealer to sell and use the proceeds to repay the loan,” said Ehindero. No word from the devil on his involvement.

Yeah, we’re going to have to say next to “the dog ate my homework” story, because this must be the lamest excuse we’ve ever heard.

Ehindero did say he was sorry for his actions, but we’re thinking his repentance will be paid behind bars. But we will give it up to the (likely former) pastor for his taste in vehicles. In fact, we dedicate this classic to him and his bravado…
