Instagram Couple Travels the World in a 75 Troopy

After a once-in-a-lifetime trip from New Zealand to Great Britain in an old Toyota, he proposed — and she said yes.

Ever dreamed of traveling the world in your Land Cruiser? One couple from New Zealand has transformed that dream into a reality.

Romy and Joss drove their 75 Troopy all the way from New Zealand to Great Britain. They’ve documented their wondrous journey on an Instagram account called Globo Overland. If you like classic Toyota trucks, beautiful landscapes, and great photography, it’s well worth following.

The trip is more or less complete — they’ve recently arrived in Great Britain. However, we’re almost certain that this is just the beginning of adventures for the couple and their red 75 Troopy. The most recent post shows a wedding proposal.

We suppose if a relationship can survive thousands of miles across uncertain terrain in an old Toyota, the sky’s the limit. Then again, when you’re over 11,000 miles from home, it’s probably hard to turn down your ride back!

Halfway Around the World

Here at YotaTech, we’re happy for the couple. Not only does this trip seem like a dream come true, but it’s also a storybook romance. We aren’t usually big on the mushy stuff but something about this just pulled at our heartstrings. Maybe their cool old Toyota truck has something to do with it.

Today we are celebrating someone turning 30! You’ll be surprised to hear it’s not the Land Cruiser. Happy birthday @maori_me – the best driver in the world & perfect adventure partner. Here’s to more wild adventures together 🍻 #happybirthday#birthdaycelebrations#ontheroad#landcruiser#70series#expedition#overlandtravel#overlanding#outdoors#toyota#welivetoexplore#travel#troopy#troopcarrier#troopylife#travel#seetheworld#wildadventures#30thbirthday

That truck is an unusual long-wheelbase version of the J70 platform. It’s called a “Troopy” as a nod to its original purpose as an enclosed military troop carrier. As it turns out, that large rear section makes for a great place to camp and carry supplies. A pickup model was also available.

Looking through the photos of their trip, it appears that the good old 75 Troopy never really let them down. It did what Toyotas do best — survive in harsh conditions with minimal maintenance, and minimal trouble.

We have been in Laos for a couple of weeks now and what an incredible country it is. We’ve spent most of our time in the mountainous north east of the country. It’s been fascinating to pass through local people’s everyday lives. Many people in these small villages make fires at night to keep warm! Something we never associated with south east Asia before. #laos#southeastasia#ontheroad#landcruiser#70series#camping#campinglife#vanlife#expedition#overlandtravel#overlanding#outdoors#offroad#campspot#4x4life#offroad4x4#toyota#ourcamplife#camperlifestyle#vanlifecamper#welivetoexplore#travel#troopy#troopcarrier#troopylife# ature

It’s clear that Romy and Joss have gone the distance in every sense. The only question now is, how do they top themselves when it’s time for the honeymoon? Maybe they’ll just spend a quiet week at home, lounging around the house. We doubt it. We’re excited to see what’s next for Romy and Joss.
