Insane Price for 1993 Toyota Pickup Causes a Stir on Reddit
Would you pay $25,000 for an immaculate fifth-gen SR5 Pickup when a 2019 Tacoma cost the same price?
Craigslist is an interesting place. Some people love it, others hate it. It is known for having either the best deals on internet or finding 25 year old trucks for the cost of its new equivalent. Well, thanks to the good folks on the r/cars subreddit, we were able to find this gem of a Toyota Pickup.
We will start by saying that we have to be honest, this SR5 is literally immaculate. The ad describes it as “this truck looks like it could be sitting on a Toyota dealer’s showroom in 1993” and we find it hard to disagree. It really does look that well kept, as if somebody did a concourse-style rotisserie restomod on a Toyota truck. The thing that might impress us even more than its condition is the fact that it is far from a new truck, actually, this Pickup has 131,213 miles. That’s whole lot of miles for something that looks as good as this one does.
How did they do it? We aren’t exactly sure. Supposedly, the truck still is on the original paint, the glass has been replaced throughout the truck as well as all the chrome pieces and varnishes. Featured on the truck is a custom matching SnugTop canopy and according to the ad, the bed has “never been used”. Recently a major service has been done to the truck, including new plugs, wires, rotors, an oil change, you name it.
The truck is an automatic, which might be a plus to some and a minus to others. The A/C has been converted to R-134 and literally every single part of the vehicle works and functions as brand new. This truck has never been an accident and has a clean Carfax.
We have given you all this information to come to one conclusion: the truck is not worth the asking price or anywhere near it. Don’t get me wrong, its a very nice truck and many of us would be crying tears of joy if we saw it in person. However, the fact that this 1993 literally costs as much as a brand new 2019 Tacoma is unavoidable and unacceptable. It’s as simple as that and there isn’t really much else to be said.
How much is the truck really worth? It’s worth whatever somebody is willing to pay for it.
