Here’s What the U.S.-Bound 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Might Look Like
The new, retro-themed 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser and Prado figure to ride the retro wave set forth by the 2024 Lexus GX.
In news that came as a surprise to most, Toyota decided to discontinue the Land Cruiser in the U.S. when the last-gen model bowed out, ending a very long and impressive run. However, it wasn’t long after that when we learned the Toyota Land Cruiser would indeed return to the states, albeit in a very different manner – as a potentially smaller, retro-themed alternative to the previous model, which was a pricey, large, and luxurious hauler with solid off-road capability. The exterior outline of the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser was recently teased in very shadowy form by the automaker itself, which is precisely what inspired the YouTube channel AutoYa to render what could be the actual production model, too.
In this first video, we get a look at some 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser exterior renderings, which are based not only on the aforementioned teaser, but also the 2024 Lexus GX – which itself is based on the Toyota Prado, which is essentially that brand’s version of the GX that it sells in various other international markets.
That means the new Land Cruiser/Prado will feature more upright, boxy styling when compared to its curvy predecessor, giving it more of an old-school off-road-focused SUV appearance that so many people love – including us. However, while a prior report suggests that this new SUV will sport styling cues inspired by the 40 and 70 Series models – such as the beloved FJ40 – these renderings forgo things like round headlights for a straight-edged style that’s reminiscent of more modern Land Cruiser models – particularly its front end, which reminds us of the J60 and J80.
As for the inside, well, these renderings also take heavy influence from the new GX, which makes sense given the fact that those two vehicles are so similar. AutoYa simply added some Toyota badges and other styling elements to the cabin, which is a bit less luxurious than its Lexus counterpart – as has historically been the case.
Rumor has it that the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser will be offered in two trims, with one of them being a more hardcore TRD Pro-like model, as well as at least one powertrain – the same turbocharged 2.4-liter four cylinder iForce and/or iForce Max available in the 2024 Tacoma. However, it would seem like a major omission if Toyota decided not to also offer the new turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 in the U.S. too, which could very well be the powertrain of choice for America, especially if it does in fact share a lot in common with the 2024 Lexus GX. In any event, we’re obviously excited to see what the finished product looks like – inside and out.
