Toyota Hilux

Badass 1UZ-powered classic Hilux is one killer ride on its own. But this vintage pickup isn’t just some show pony, either.

There’s a good reason why the legendary Toyota Hilux is such a revered vehicle. It’s practically indestructible, inherently tough, and capable of taking you just about anywhere. These qualities have endeared the international Toyota pickup to millions over the years, despite their incredible simplicity. Because as we all know, sometimes simple is a good thing.

Take a gander at the Instagram page dubbed 77highlux, and you’ll see exactly what we mean. While many of today’s “grams” focus on things like aesthetics, this one is all about the journey. And enabling these adventures is nothing less than an old school Toyota Hilux. It’s pretty clear that the classic pickup is more than capable of traveling everywhere and anywhere. Because, well, it does.

The highlight of this Hilux’s journeys including a 6,500 mile trip from Mystic, Connecticut to San Francisco, California. Along the way, this tough little truck has encountered everything from rocky trails to snow capped mountains. Oh, and all the gorgeous scenery this great country has to offer, of course.

Adding to the Hilux’s already legendary capability is an equally legendary powerplant — the 1UZ-FE. This mighty Toyota mill has earned a cult following at least equal to the Hilux. And ironically, for many of the same reasons. Unlike the pickup, the 1UZ was a highly advanced engine in its time. Like the truck, it’s incredibly capable, reliable, and infinitely tuneable.

Took me a while but I found it. Not quite perfect without @cthysell but we’ll be back. Feeling very #blessed this will be one of the final #camping sites. Couldn’t have done it without @tepuitents better set up than I could have dreamed of #sunset #mountains #zion #utah #zionnationalpark #adventure #overlanding #4×4 #yotamafia #toyotabuiltnotbought #trailtested #amazing #beautiful #hechoamano #dreams #goals @toyotausa

With a killer truck and equally killer photography skills, we quickly found ourselves enthralled with this particular ‘gram. And we think you will be too. So, give 77highlux a follow, if you’re the adventurous type. Or if you just love to see a classic Toyota pickup living its best life!
