Do You ‘Hate’ Anything About Your Tacoma?
Obviously, you can love your Toyota Tacoma and still not think it’s totally perfect. So do you agree with this list?
Even the best vehicles are imperfect, but the best ones overwhelm any glaring flaws with their sparkling qualities. For example? I once owned an MGB GT which honored its British heritage with a persistent electrical drain, and acknowledged its Italian-designed sheetmetal by periodically leaking fuel and the threatening self immolation. But I loved it. So I’m a firm believer in love-hate relationships with vehicles.
Which brings us to this latest video from Kevin Shinohara, where he details the things he hates about his Tacoma. Now, as he says in the description, he loves the truck, and the tasteful mods he’s done are also testament to how much he enjoys the rig. So that makes it particularly interesting to hear what he doesn’t like. Because as well all know, whether it comes to trucks, TV shows, or tamales, the biggest fans are also the biggest critics.
The first complaint here is about the lack of clearance for bigger rubber, which is something any Tacoma fan will agree with. He then touches on the fact that the rear brakes are still — even in 2022 — drums, the less-than-excellent fuel economy, and the fact that the automatic can hunt for gears. Importantly, the last issue covered is one that Toyota already corrected for the 2020 model year (which he acknowledges).
For the record, I think this is a really fair list overall. And given that the fourth-gen Tacoma is coming for 2024, we won’t have to wait too long to see how many of Shinohara’s issues Toyota corrects. That said, how do you feel about this list? Do you think he’s on the money, or are complaints about, say, gas mileage and infotainment too nitpicky? Hit me up and let know. Or better yet, make your own list and share it on the forum!
