Cream Puff 2001 Land Cruiser Set to Fetch Big Bucks

2001 Toyota Land Cruiser

This tastefully modified 2001 Toyota Land Cruiser looks like a perfect example of the breed.

Prices for Toyota Land Cruisers have been rising for over a decade, and given that model is set to disappear from our shores, I wouldn’t expect that trend to reverse itself anytime soon. So I’ll be keeping an eye on exactly what this cream puff recently listed on Bring a Trailer fetches when the hammer drops. With five days to go, bidding had already pushed the price to just over $25,000 — and you know that’s just the beginning. I’d be surprised it the reserve has even been met.

Over the course of its life, this baby has only done 83,000 miles, and while it’s possible that that many of those miles could have been racked up in while tackling challenging off-road terrain, given just how well this rig presents, it seems unlikely. In scouring the pictures, everything about this one-owner rig points to a conscientious caretaker who looked after every mechanical need. The fact that they preserved the original window sticker is just the cherry on top of the sundae.

Along with legendary Toyota build quality, the new owner will get a load of trick — but exceptionally tasteful — aftermarket kit. Personally, I’m a sucker for a factory radio, so the Kenwood touchscreen stereo doesn’t do it for me.

What does do it for me is the Front Runner Slimline II roof rack, Slee rear bumper with integrated ladder, ICON stage three suspension kit, and beefy-looking Warn 9.5XP winch. To make sure none of the greasy bits get harmed out on the trail, there’s also an aluminum skid plate system riding underneath.

Since I get a profound joy from browsing the isles at Storables and The Container Store, I also find the ARB sliding drawer system installed in the cargo area quite fetching, and the rest of the cabin looks to be factory fresh. Seriously, I can’t see any indication of wear on any surface, which makes me feel like this seller is exactly the kind of person you want to buy a car from.

A major service back in 2016 tackled the lion’s share of wear parts, including the timing belt and water pump, and the steering rack and tie rod ends were done at the same time. Given the unique condition, documented history, and general desirability of this vehicle, it’s obviously going to be at the upper end of the price range for example of this vintage. So I’ll be keeping an eye on it to see just how high it goes…
