Classic Toyota Pickup Makes Hagerty’s Inflation Beaters List

Classic Toyota Pickup

Classic Toyota Pickup prices have been rising for years. And according to Hagerty’s valuation experts, they’re going to keep going up.

Everyone is talking about inflation. And if prices keep going up this path? Soon a banana might actually cost ten dollars. That said, even in a historic bull market, there are deals to be found. So our friends at Hagerty have made a video showcasing vehicles they think will gain value in the coming years — and it shouldn’t come as surprise that the classic Toyota Pickup made the list. Prices for these rugged, reliable rigs have been on the rise for years.

Almost exactly two years ago, I wrote a post about how prices hadn’t actually gotten into crazy territory yet, and used a well-maintained 1985 example to illustrate my point. At the time, the owner was asking $7,500 bucks, and I’m sure they got it. Roughly a year later, a cream-puff 1991 model with just 21k on the clock sold on Bring a Trailer for $30,000, and demonstrated that fans were willing to pay big money for squeaky clean Toyota trucks.

If you’re curious, that 1991 pickup originally retailed for around $11,500. So if it was still in the hands of the original owner, getting $30k in today’s money would have been a huge win. Now obviously, only time will tell if the forecasters at Haggerty are correct in saying we haven’t seen the top of the curve yet. But my gut says we still have a little ways to go before classic Toyota Pickups reach maximum altitude. Just look at what’s happened with the Land Cruiser.

Like all the other video content Haggerty has done recently, this clip is a great watch. The section on the Toyota pickup starts around the 20-minute mark, just after a fun sequence where legendary hot shoe Randy Pobst tackles a twisty canyon road in another entry on the list — a Hummer H1. Check out the full clip below, and let me know which of these machines you’d most like to have in your garage!
