Christian Bale Drives a Secondhand Toyota Tacoma
Christian Bale proves that even massive movie stars can’t resist the pull of the Toyota Tacoma.
With his portrayal of sport car racer Ken Miles in Ford v Ferrari, Christian Bale endeared himself to millions of gearheads. But while he reportedly had a blast at the famous Bondurant School, Bale hasn’t taken to tooling around in exotic hardware. Because the actor is still using a first-gen Toyota Tacoma for daily driving duties — and he didn’t even buy it new! He got it secondhand!
While I’m a fan of Bale, and happen to think he’s the best actor to ever don the Batman costume, I had no idea he was such a fan of the Toyota Tacoma. It wasn’t until I saw this recent story from The Drive that I discovered that fact. As it turns out, the Academy Award winner uses his rig the same way a lot of Tacoma owners do. To haul around his motorcycles, and even help friends move stuff.
Because though he doesn’t have much of an appetite for high-end cars, Bale does love to race motorcycles. In the video below, he explains that while he’s currently banned — thanks to an ultimatum from his wife — from racing bikes, he still owns a wicked MV Agusta F4. That svelte, powerful machine will happily fit in the bed of the Tacoma, and the truck would obviously help him fly under the radar on the way to the track.
Personally, I think it’s pretty cool that a massive massive star — who could drive anything he wants — chooses to roll around Los Angeles in such a humble rig. To hear more about why Bale loves his Tacoma so much, check out the interview he and Matt Damon did with veteran Autoweek journalist Mark Vaughn. And next time you’re driving in LA? Don’t be surprised if you see Batman in an old Tacoma!
