Top YotaTech Stories of 2020

Fortunately, Marty McFly’s Toyota inspired a couple of bright spots in the dreadful stretch which was the last 12 months.

If you’re reading this, you likely understand that 2020 has been one wet fart of a year. But while the world might have been on fire both literally and figuratively, like the Hilux made famous by the Top Gear blokes, the world of the Toyota truck has soldiered on. Yup, even amidst the smoke from this garbage fire of stretch on the calendar, there’s joy to be found.

So on that note, let’s take a look at some of the most popular stories posted on YotaTech during this long, long, year. As ever, some of the most popular things on the blog were plucked straight from the forum, so I’d like to say thanks to everyone who contributes to this place. We truly couldn’t make this site work without you.

Number 10: Toyota Pickup Recreates Toy Story‘s Pizza Planet Delivery Truck

It might not be from the world of Doc Brown and Marty McFly, but this little yellow rig still has some big-screen pedigree. I love how faithful this is to the truck from Pixar’s beloved animated series of flicks, and love the idea of folks stumbling across it on the street. I bet lots of folks look right past it, which makes it even cooler.

Number 9: Want to Build Your Own Back to the Future 4×4?

Speaking of big-screen stars, if you’re interested in channeling your inner Marty, this step-by-step guide to building his dream truck is right up your alley. Fortunately, aside from scoring a rig in suitable condition and vintage, nothing here looks terribly hard to accomplish — even if you’re new to turning a wrench.

Number 8: 1985 Toyota SR5 Xtra Cab Goes Back to the Future

Continuing with the time-travel theme, here’s what you could wind up with if you followed the build-your-own guide to the letter. That said, I wouldn’t suggest building a rig like this if you’re the shy type, as it’s sure to inspire conversations everywhere you go. Because while it’s not flashy? The folks who know what it is, know exactly what it is.

Number 7: 1990 Toyota FJ62 Is a No-Expense Spared Stunner

Rugged capabilities, bulletproof reliability, and handsome styling are hallmarks of the Toyota’s venerable Land Cruiser, and this example has been built beautifully. So called “golden-era” examples have been rising in price dramatically over the past few years, so I think it’s a safe bet this owner won’t lose a dime on this baby if they ever want to sell.

Number 6: Supercharged Tundra Rips Quarter-Mile in 12.8 Seconds

While we generally focus on off-road prowess and not straight-line speed, it’s always fun to see how the drag-strip set is getting along. And this wicked Tundra showed all the dirt-trail folks all the fun they’ve been missing out on. The lack of bombastic exterior mods makes this blue beauty sure to surprise folks at the track. Yup, sleepers are just plain cool.

Number 5: Best Budget Overland Vehicle: Toyota Sequoia?

Yes, there’s no question that some Toyota rigs are being recognized as classics. Anyone who occasionally checks out auction sites knows that. But the fact remains that lots of offerings from the company remain plentiful, affordable, and easy to modify. This Sequoia is a great example.

Now, I happen to say Toyota trucks are reliable a lot, because that it 100-percent true. It’s a huge part of their popularity, but nothing is perfect, and this history of experiences with a classic rig could serve as a kind of CliffsNotes for what to expect if you pick one up. It’s a good read about great times.
