2024 Toyota Tacoma Set to Launch This December
The long wait for the all-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma is almost over – at least for models powered by certain engines.
Following months – heck, years really – of anticipation, the all-new, completely redesigned 2024 Toyota Tacoma debuted this past May sporting fresh styling, new variants, and a brand new powertrain lineup. In the heated, constantly-growing mid-size truck market, such changes were probably necessary to keep the Tacoma atop the sales charts, and by all accounts, they seem primed to do precisely that. However, there are still some things we don’t know about the 2024 Toyota Tacoma – like how much it will cost – but we do know that it will launch soon, at least.
Toyota has announced that the 2024 Tacoma will arrive in the U.S. this December, which means that we only have to wait a couple more months before we can get our hands on the all-new pickup. However, Toyota still hasn’t announced pricing for the new Tacoma, though that certainly isn’t anything unusual in the automotive world – oftentimes, we don’t get that info until we’re quite close to a new vehicle’s actual launch date.
In the meantime, we know pretty much everything there is to know about the 2024 Toyota Tacoma. That includes its dizzying array of trims and configurations, which include two-door XtraCab or four-door Double Cab body styles with five- or six-foot bed lengths. A grand total of eight trim levels are available, a list that consists of the SR, SR5, TRD PreRunner, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, TRD Pro, and the overlanding-focused Trailhunter.
In terms of powertrains, customers can opt for the turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder making 228 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque in base SR form. SR5, TRD PreRunner, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, and Limited trims get the i-Force hybrid, which makes 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet or slightly less when paired with the six-speed manual gearbox. The i-Force Max hybrid adds a 48 hp electric motor and a 1.87-kWh NiMH battery pack for a combined output of 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. For this generation, an eight-speed automatic transmission replaces the outgoing six-speed, though a manual is still available in SR, TRD Sport, and TRD Off-Road trims.
Underneath, the 2024 Tacoma rides on a revised frame and a brand new architecture its shares with the Tundra and Sequoia, with standard rear discs replacing the old drums. The mid-sizer is equipped with a five-link coil spring suspension on XtraCab models in SR5 trim and up. Depending on trim, each Tacoma also has its own unique suspension upgrades, including the TRD Pro – which is fitted with new Fox QS3 adjustable dampers with rear reservoirs, and the Trailhunter, which is equipped with Old Man Emu position-sensitive remote reservoir shocks.
It is worth noting that during the unveiling of the 2024 Toyota Tacoma, the automaker said that i-Force Max-powered pickups won’t be available when the new model officially arrives, and instead, will launch a few months later in the spring of 2024. Otherwise, it won’t be long before we start to see the new Tacoma populating dealer lots and our local roads.
