1982 FJ40 is a Purple Pothole Eater
Bright paint, a soft top, and a gorgeous new leather interior make this FJ40 the perfect summer cruising machine.
The FJ40 Land Cruiser is a landmark vehicle for Toyota, and a true icon of off-roading. It’s a lot of things to a lot of people. It’s a freedom fighter, a weekend fun machine, the ultimate 4×4, the anti-Jeep.
This particular FJ40 will be offered as part of the Fall Carlisle Collector Car Flea Market, Corral, & Auction. The event, which takes place at the famous Carlisle Fairgrounds in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, is set to offer numerous opportunities to bring home some truly incredible machinery.
Running from October 2 through October 6, it’s one of the last car events on the packed schedule for the Carlisle Fairgrounds. If you’ve never been to an event there, we highly recommend it.
A 1982 model, this FJ40 is very close to the end of the line for the legendary off-roader, which ceased production in 1984. This one has been restored, and treated to a new interior and a fresh coat of paint.
Metallic purple may not have been our first choice for an FJ40, but now that we’ve seen one, that may change. It looks stunning. Somehow, the color really works on the FJ40’s boxy shape. The tan top and polished aluminum wheels really set it off.
Under the hood, you’ll find the tried and true 4.2 liter Toyota 2F inline six. It’s good for 135 horsepower, and, more importantly, 200 lb/ft of torque. It may not sound like much, but it was more than enough to solidify the FJ40’s reputation as a go-anywhere, do-anything machine.
Behind that straight six, you’ll find a four speed manual transmission and the obligatory transfer case. No surprises here.
Inside, the peanut butter brown interior matches up perfectly with the purple details. We’re all about function over form here on YotaTech, but we can appreciate a beautiful truck when we see one.
This one is almost too nice to get muddy. We’d like to keep this in the garage as a fun summer beach cruiser. What would you do with it? Let us know in our forums!
