Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser

Early-model FJ40 has been restored using original, hard-to-find parts and will surely fetch big money at auction.

The Toyota Land Cruiser is a vehicle that needs no introduction. The extremely capable off-roader came to light when the Japanese police and forestry departments requested something that could traverse various types of terrain. Despite being incredibly popular, finding a Land Cruiser, especially a FJ40, which were made from 1960 to 1984, that’s in good condition is nearly impossible and can sell for nearly six figures. This exceptionally clean ’65 FJ40 that we found on Barrett-Jackson is one of the best examples we’ve ever seen.

What makes this specific FJ40 so cool is that the vehicle has been restored to its original specification using parts that the listing claims “were incredibly difficult to source.” The hard work paid off, as the FJ40 looks pristine.

The exterior is finished in a classic shade of white on Sierra Beige and, according to the listing, is one of the few FJ40s to have a hardtop and corrugated side panels. At the back sits a swing-out door that features a rear hatch that can be folded up and sits almost flush against the roof of the SUV. Amazingly, the exterior looks like it’s brand new, and the “period-correct military-style tires” really make this classic a looker.

On the inside, the FJ40 features red seats that are wearing a new layer of coral vinyl, while the listing claims that every single switch, knob, and gauge have either been restored or replaced with a new one. While the FJ40 originally came with a 3.9-liter straight-six engine, the listing claims that a V6 engine powers the SUV, which could be a typo. Still, the three-speed-manual transmission is correct and four-wheel drive reportedly works will, which means this beast can still tackle it all.

Lot number 465 will cross the block during Barrett-Jackson’s Las Vegas auction that runs from October 19 to 21. And with its gorgeous looks, we wouldn’t be surprised to see this beauty go for roughly six figures.
