Toyota Sees a Rise in Sales as Others Struggle

Riding on the coattails of the Tacoma and Tundra, Toyota sales are heating up as other automakers fizzle.

This year hasn’t been noteworthy for automakers as far as sales are concerned. According to a report by Automotive News, light-vehicle sales in the United Sales dropped 2.9 percent in June, as the industry saw a decrease for the sixth straight month. While the Detroit 3 saw sales continue to slip, Japanese automakers, including, Nissan, Honda, and Toyota saw sales rise.

As Automotive News reports, the increase in sales came from the automakers’ truck sales. Taking a look through Toyota’s June sales report reveals that the Tacoma and Tundra saw decent figures in June. Toyota sold 16,443 Tacomas last month, which is an increase of 634 units over last June when the automaker sold 15,809 Tacomas.

The midsize pickup isn’t the only truck that’s doing well for Toyota, as the automaker also saw sales figures for the Tundra increase as well. In June, Toyota managed to shift 9,483 units of the Tundra. Last year, the automaker only managed to sell 9,433 Tundras, resulting in an increase of 410 units this year.

The 4Runner also did extremely well, as Toyota sold 10,423 units of the SUV last month – an increase of 2,013 units from the previous year – as did the Land Cruiser, which saw a marginal increase of 24 units over the previous year. Overall, Toyota saw a 2.1 percent increase in sales last month, as the automaker sold a total of 202,376 vehicles in June. Last June, Toyota sold a total of 198,257.
