Oregon Man and His Dog Survive Five Days in a Toyota on Taco Sauce
Deep snow prevented 4Runner from moving before stranded driver was rescued by a snowmobile rider days later.
What’s one of the best things about owning a Toyota pickup or SUV? Being able to go off-roading in it. There’s a lot of off-road capability already on tap from the lot, with tons of aftermarket goodies to boost that cred to the highest peaks.
Sometimes, though, nature finds a way to counter Toyota’s toughness. Portland, Oregon ABC affiliate KATU-TV reports an Oregon man and his dog were stuck in their 2000 4Runner for five days due to the deep snow.
The story began on February 24, when Jeremy Taylor of Sunriver, Oregon, and his dog, Ally, went up a forest service road for some fun in the snow. However, the driver had not anticipated just how treacherous the weather was, and the 4Runner wound up stuck, leaving Taylor and Ally stranded for the night.
The next day, Taylor tried to get help, but the deep snow made things difficult. Thus, he and Ally took shelter in their 4Runner for the next few days, turning the SUV on and off to keep warm, and living off of Taco Bell Fire taco sauce packets for food.
On March 1, the duo were rescued by an Oregon Water Resource SnowCat piloted by a member of the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, then reunited with friends and family nearby.
As a bonus, sister ABC affiliate KOMO-TV in Seattle says Taylor will be receiving a few tacos and a care package from Taco Bell, whose packets kept the duo alive over those chilly days in the Oregon snow. We hope their 4Runner gets a care package for providing shelter to Taylor and Ally, too.
