2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro Tackles the Rain and Mud in Texas

By -

Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro can handle anything throw at it, and here’s proof.

Each year, the Texas Auto Writers Association hosts the Texas Truck Rodeo. The event lets journalists take a wide range of trucks and SUVs out for a spin in the dirt. This year things went a little sideways. It rained. It rained so much they had to cut things short, but not before the guys from The Fast Lane Truck took the 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro for a spin in the mud.

Roman and Andre brave the weather to give us a look at the Tacoma TRD Pro and show off what’s new this year. That includes a desert air intake that’s not standard but can be ordered and installed by the dealer. This helps the engine get cleaner air from higher up, which matters when you’re driving through the desert kicking up a cloud of sand.

It also gets Fox shocks, a bold TRD Pro skid plate up front with additional skid plates to keep all the important bits protected, TRD Pro wheels, a locking rear differential, and crawl control, which the guys show off on a muddy up-hill stretch of road. This Tacoma also has the new Voodoo Blue paint available this year and a sticker package.

While they spend most of the time in the truck talking about what’s new, Roman does venture out briefly. He gets a couple of good shots of the Tacoma splashing through the mud. He also gives a good look at the TRD wheels and the shocks, all coated in a liberal layer of Texas mud. We almost feel bad for the guy. How’d Andre luck out and end up staying behind the wheel the whole time?
