Toyota FJ40 Restoration Is as Perfect as They Come
There are restorations, and then there are restorations. This Toyota FJ40 was rejuvenated with serious passion.
These days, you can’t throw a rock blindfolded without hitting a restored Toyota FJ40. And you really can’t blame people for pouring countless dollars into rebuilding them, either. The old school Land Cruiser is quite simply one of the coolest (if not the coolest) old school off-roaders ever constructed. Which is also why people are willing to pay huge bucks for them, whether they’re restored or total basket cases.
This stunning 1984 Toyota FJ40, which we spotted over at Mecum Auctions, is certainly not the latter. Heck, it’s not even what you would call an average restoration. This old Land Cruiser is essentially better than new, thanks to a full-on, frame-off, nut-and-bolt resto job. And we think you’ll agree that the results of all that hard work (read: money) was well worth it. If not for the seller, then certainly for the new owner.
Everywhere you look, you’ll spot nothing less than perfection on this blue on black Toyota FJ40. The body is immaculate, the interior flawless. And sure, it isn’t 100% original, but it’s close enough. The original engine still resides under the hood, albeit rebuilt. But a handful of modern mods make this cool old Toyota even cooler.
We’re talking about an Old Man Emu suspension, 33-inch BF Goodrich KM2 tires, and a modern battery, of course. Those few changes are nothing outrageous, but they are welcome. The tires and suspension work not only enhance the looks of this masterfully restored Toyota FJ40, they also enhance its capability. Even though we doubt the new owner is going to take this beauty out in the mud.
Heck, we can’t blame them. It’s pretty obvious that a lot of money was spent making this thing pretty, so who are we to dirty it up? Then again, you can’t take this stuff with you when you die either, right?
