TDR 3.0-Inch Lift Kit Now Available for the Toyota Tundra

While it’s not cheap, the TRD lift kit is designed to seamless work with all the Tundra’s systems.

After taking delivery of a truck, one of the first things many enthusiasts do is lift it. But up until now, buyers of the new Toyota Tundra haven’t had a factory option to raise their rig. That changed this week, as the company’s TRD division has just taken the wraps off a kit which lifts the Tundra 3.0 inches up front and 2.0 inches in the back, and includes a long list of components, including Bilstein shocks, Roush forged upper control arms, and red TRD coil springs.

The kit is designed to work with both iFORCE and iFORCE-Max 4×4 models, but won’t work with TRD Pro or TRD Sport trucks. It’s also not compatible with Toyota’s cushy Adaptive Variable Suspension — which is a big trade off if most of your driving is done on the road. That said, the lift kit significantly improves the Tundra’s approach and departure angles, which climb from 21.0 to 26.0 degrees and 24.0 to 25.0 degrees, respectively.

At $3,995 it’s hardly cheap, and while it carries a warranty good for up to three years or 36,000 miles, there’s a bit of catch there. First, it has to be installed at the dealer — so the DIY crowd need not apply. Also, that price doesn’t include installation, so the total cost is going to be significantly more. Interested folks should also consider that the three-year, 36k warranty is only applicable if it’s installed on truck before it leaves the lot. Otherwise, it drops to one year.

Aside from the off-road performance gains, and the wicked stance it gives the truck, there’s another big bonus to the TRD lift kit. Because this is the only kit available for the Tundra which is compatible with the Toyota Safety Sense system. Since TSS includes handy features like Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert, and Automatic High Beams, along with great tech like the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, it’s not exactly the kind of thing you want to disable. Of course, it also means there won’t be any annoying lights on the dash, which is great too.
