2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro to Get Fox Shocks
The latest 2022 Toyota Tundra teaser pics show Fox shocks and a coil spring setup at the rear.
The second generation of the Toyota Tundra debuted back in 2006, so it’s a bit of an understatement to say the company has taken its sweet time launching the third generation. Fortunately, the wait is almost over, and now we have a few more teaser pics to tide us over until the big reveal happens this fall. These shots should prove of particular interest to off-road fans, as they show TRD Pro versions of Toyota’s big rig will be packing Fox shocks — just like the Ford Raptor.
Fox is an icon in the off-road realm, so buyers should expect a huge leap forward in terms of agility over tough terrain. In addition to showing off the trick red dampers — and matching sway bar — the latest pics also show Toyota has ditched the current generation’s rear leaf springs in favor of coil springs. That’s a big deal, because while the old-school tech is good for helping spread the weight of a load over a wider area, modern coil springs are far better for performance applications.
So along with more articulation, the trick new kit will allow the 2022 Tundra to put power to the ground more efficiently. Of course, exactly how much power we’re talking about remains to be seen. Previous teaser photos seem to indicate that motivation will come from a six-cylinder mill, which will likely be fortified with a twin-turbo setup. Hope as we might, it seems like a force-fed V8 engine might not be in the cards. Because while corporate cousin Lexus has been working on a twin-turbo 4.0-liter, at this point the project seems to be dead in the water.
That said, the details that we do know about the 2022 Toyota Tundra are encouraging. The moonroof is going to be positively massive, and there’s also going to be a power rear window. At long last, the new Tundra will also get Downhill Assist Control and Crawl Control, plus wireless device charging, and an option for ghost camo red leather seats. From the teaser pics, those chairs should be both heated and ventilated, so I’m beyond curious to see what other high-end luxury touches make it on to the Tundra.
